The commandant-general, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Prof Ade Abolurin, has said his agency are winning its fight against oil theft, pipeline vandalism and other crimes in the nation.
Prof Abolurin, speaking, Thursday, in Abuja linked NSCDC’s success story to cooperation from civilians and the general public.
He noted that the Corps had contained a lot of security challenges bedeviling its area of operational responsibility.
According to him, the attainments of the Corps conform to the vision of President Goodluck Jonathan to transform Civil Defence into a force capable of tackling contemporary challenges.
He also throw more light on the steps the Corps had taken to combat oil thieves and vandals, saying they mount surveillance on key routes where illegal operation were being carried.
He added that efforts had also been intensified in building a relationship of trust with the communities where pipelines are channeled.
According to Prof. Abolurin, this strategy has boosted the Corps information gathering on the illegal activities of the nation’s saboteurs.
“I believe we are winning the war against vandalism, bunkering and oil theft. We make arrests on a daily basis and this is a very clear signal that their era is long expired,” he said.
