As Nigeria marks her 54th Independence anniversary today, the Speaker, Imo state house of Assembly, Benjamin Uwajumogu, has called on citizens of the state and the country to exhibit high sense of patriotism and support to the service of their fatherland.
He also urged leaders at various levels in the country to always respect the ideals of the founding founders of the country by ensuring good governance and selfless service to the people.
In a message issued in Owerri to commemorate the event by his Senior Special Assistant on Media, Mr. Chukwuemeka Ahaneku, the Speaker maintained that at 54, the country needs a greater collaboration from relevant stakeholders, as well as unalloyed support and prayers from her citizens to enable it confront its seeming daunting challenges, adding that the task of making Nigeria great was a collective responsibility.
While challenging political leaders in the country to always showcase their love and passion for the country through transparency, accountability and dedication to duty, Benjamin also urged Nigerians to always maintain a peaceful atmosphere in their different localities, especially at the current build up to the 2015 general elections in the country.
He used the occasion to congratulate the state governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha and the proponents of the Rescue Mission philosophy of the state government for their vision and strong-will towards bringing the state to the path of development, adding that the legacy projects dotting the landscape of the state were the indication that the current government in the state is masses-oriented.
The Speaker also felicitated with the good people of the state, as well as the Okigwe Senatorial Zone in particular and appreciated their efforts and supports in the on-going transformation of the state, promising that their sacrifices for the betterment of the state would never be over-emphasized.
