The All Progressives Congress, (APC), Abia State governorship candidate Chief Nyerere Anyim has reaffirmed his desire to transform Abia State  through effective policies if elected governor in the upcoming gubernatorial election scheduled for February 2015.

He spoke exclusively to The City Reporters at Romway Hotels, Ogbor Hill, Aba, Abia State during the 3rd annual convention organised by Abia Awakening in collaboration with Abia Citizens Initiative for Effective Development.

Nyerere who maintained that Abia State is grossly underdeveloped highlighted his agenda for the people of Abia State to include: free medical care, 12 years of free qualitative education for both primary, secondary and university if elected governor.

While explaining his policy on education, Nyerere noted that proactive policies outlast the government that formulated it and grow to become a policy.

“When I talked about 12 years of free qualitative education for our children, that means six years of primary school as we have it presently and another six years of secondary education that will be free from all it’s ramifications divided into three general secondary education and three years of vocational education, depending on the one the students or the pupil will want to choose.

“In our six years of what we call secondary education, we will have a system where the students will either decide to continue with secondary school system or go through vocational education for three years,” he said.

He also bemoaned the high infant/maternal mortality rate in Abia State saying that it is as a result of weak system.

He said his government will develop the health sector in Abia State with prenatal and antenatal facilities in hospital dedicated for women for free delivery and medical care.

According to him, children from age one to 12 will be given free medical care in tandem with what his government has with the health insurance scheme.
